    Rush at airport

SHENZHEN International Airport has entered the peak of Spring Festival holiday rush with more than 800 flights coming to and leaving the city since Tuesday. Around 130,000 passengers were handled each day.

China Southern Airlines handled 112 flights departing from Shenzhen yesterday, carrying more than 18,000 passengers.

The outbound flights are also in high demand as some travelers have chosen to spend the Spring Festival holiday overseas. Data showed that more than 92 percent of the seats on flights to Seoul, Bangkok, Sydney, Phuket, Osaka and Bali Island have been booked.

    Road opens

THE section of Longlan Boulevard between Guanguang Road and Huaming Road, which runs about 5 kilometers, has opened to traffic, the construction center of Shenzhen’s transport commission said Tuesday.

The project is part of the northern part of Longlan Boulevard that covers Dalang, Long-hua and Fucheng subdistricts in Longhua District and goes about 14.5 kilometers.

Work on the southern part of the boulevard is still going on and will be completed before the National Day holiday this year.

    Potato chip rejection

SHENZHEN’S entry-exit inspection and quarantine bureau has rejected six batches of potato chips weighing 4.8 tons from entry for containing genetically modified ingredients. The potato chips were made in the U.S. and one of the six batches was also found to contain excessive food additives.

    Man detained

A MAN was detained for 10 days for entering a workshop that had been sealed by the fire department after failing fire safety standards.

The fire department in Nanshan District closed and sealed some workshops and warehouses in Xingzhong Industrial Park in Nanshan Subdistrict during an inspection Jan. 6.

The man, surnamed Yan, entered the sealed area by tearing off the seal and was detained by police.

    Bao’an GDP

THE GDP in Bao’an District hit 300.34 billion yuan (US$43.79 billion) in 2016, up 8.8 percent year on year, the district government said yesterday.

Tax revenue in the district last year was 53.5 billion yuan, with the manufacturing industry accounting for 51 percent of the total. The proportion highlighted the district’s strength in manufacturing.

    Voluntary services

SOME 100,000 volunteers are expected to provide more than 1,200 kinds of voluntary services across the city during the Spring Festival holiday, an official with the municipal committee of the Communist Youth League said.

Wearing red vests, the volunteers can be seen at railway stations, bus stations, theme parks and in communities, said Li Qiong, head of the committee’s volunteer section.
