NANSHAN police recently criminally detained three people who were illegally selling smuggled cigarettes and seized 300 cartons of cigarettes worth more than 3 million yuan (US$437,400).
Nantou Police Station received a tip-off Dec. 9, learning that a group of suspects were transporting cigarettes from a warehouse on Dongjiao Street in Luohu District and selling them in Nanshan.
After a monthlong investigation, police seized five suspects, all natives of Puning in Guangdong Province, and found 300 cartons of cigarettes in the warehouse.
The suspects bought the smuggled cigarettes in Caopu and sold them in Nanshan, Luohu and Futian districts. They had made a profit of more than 200,000 yuan since February 2016. Two of them were released for being minors.
The case is still under investigation.
