    Survive the cut

    顺利过关

A: How was your singing competition last week?

B: Thank God, I survived the cut and now I am preparing a new song for the final.

Note: A golf term, it can also be said to "make the cut." Golf normally consists of four rounds of play. In the beginning, say, 64 players take part. After two rounds, the field is cut to half, that is, only 32 players are allowed to move on to the final two rounds. These have survived, or made the cut. It can be used in many circumstances to mean a person is allowed to advance further in a competition.
