    German design

    An exhibition introducing elite German design from the 20th century is open to the public. With furniture designs, posters, publications, architecture models, the exhibition expounds on the 100-year history of Deutscher Werkbund, the German association for artists, architects, designers and industrialists.

    Dates: Until March 5 (closed Jan. 27)

    Ancient artifacts

    Tang Dynasty relics from Famen Temple and Anguo Temple, Shaanxi Province, are on display at the Shenzhen Museum until Feb. 28. Meanwhile, relics on loan from the magnificent Potala Palace and Norbulingka, as well as Tibet Museum and Southeast Tibet Cultural Heritage Museum of Nyingchi City are also on display until May 3.

    Open: Everyday during the holiday but closed Feb. 3

    Chinese paintings

    “Appropriation and Transformation” exhibition features paintings by 11 Chinese masters who had been greatly influenced by their studies in Japan in 1905-1937. The 11 masters were exposed to the synthesis of Western and traditional Japanese approaches.

    Dates: Until March 19 (closed Jan. 26, Feb. 3)

    Animation biennale

    The Third Shenzhen Independent Animation Biennale is a cross-regional art event showcasing videos and talks. Animation works created by artists from China, the United States, Germany, Italy, Australia, Britain and Switzerland are on display.

    Dates: Until March 2 (closed Jan. 27, 30)

    Venue: C2, North Area, OCT-LOFT, Nanshan District (南山区华侨城创意文化园北区C2)

    Mangrove park

    The phase II of the Xiwan Mangrove Tree Park in Xixiang Subdistrict, Bao’an District, opened to the public last week, providing a new place of leisure for Spring Festival holidaymakers. Phase II of the park has a capacity to accommodate sightseeing, relaxation and cycling for 30,000 visitors.

    Marvel heroes

    Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man and Wolverine — their names resound like legends. Their stories occupy a fundamental place in our imaginations and in the culture of our time. Now the Marvel superheroes are gathering in Shekou’s Sea World to welcome the Spring Festival.

    Dates: Until Feb. 19

    Venue: Huigang Shopping Center, Sea World, Shekou, Nanshan District (南山区蛇口海上世界汇港购物中心)

    Metro: Line 2, Sea World Station (海上世界站), Exit A

    Sea World Light Festival

    Artistic light installations are lighting up around Minghua ship. The Fourth Sea World International Light Festival showcases lights designed by Dutch, Chinese, German and Canadian artists, such as Daniel Iregui, Xu Zhengyue, Tropisme, Antonin Fourneau and Stichting Barstow.

    Dates: Until Feb. 15

    Venue: Sea World, Shekou, Nanshan District (南山区蛇口海上世界)
