WORK ON 4 NEW METRO LINES TO START THIS YEAR
    2017-02-09  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

CONSTRUCTION on four new Metro lines will start this year, according to a government investment plan for 2017.

The four new Metro lines are among 867 projects that the city government will invest in this year, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday. A total of 58.5 billion yuan (US$8.5 billion) will be invested in these projects.

The construction of the four new Metro lines, namely Line 12, 13, 14 and 16, will kick off this year. Over 10 Metro lines will be under construction in 2017, including the ongoing projects.

According to the plan, it will cost over 160 billion yuan to build the four new Metro lines and a sum of 2.6 billion yuan will be used this year.

Line 12 will start at Shekou in Nanshan District and end at Shajing of Bao’an District. Line 13 will run in Nanshan, connecting Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint and Xili. Line 14 will link Futian and Pingshan districts, while Line 16 will start from the Universiade Station in Longgang District and end in Pingshan District.

All four lines and stations will be built underground, preserving land resources and urban views. The projects are expected to be completed by 2022.

Besides Metro construction, water treatment is also one of the fields that the government will focus investment on. Shenzhen has been treating and improving water quality of the Maozhou River since last year, and the project will continue until 2020.

A new water treatment project is to be launched this year. The project will focus on treating the Dingshan River, which runs into Longgang District from Huizhou, a city neighboring Shenzhen. An array of comprehensive projects costing 100 million yuan will be focused on treating this river in 2017.

From this year on, the city will add thousands of high school slots each year for the following three years. Two high schools in Pingshan District and Guangming New Area will be established this year and will start enrolling students this September.

Another high school is going to be built by the end of the year and is expected to provide slots for 3,000 students next year.

Six municipal kindergartens are to be renovated this year with an investment of 90 million yuan. The renovations will be finished before July next year and the schools will begin taking in children in September 2018.

Among all of the government-funded projects, 77.9 percent are being funded by the municipal government with the key focus on developing areas outside of the former Shenzhen Special Economic Zone in order to balance citywide development.
