Dengue fever
HUANGGANG Checkpoint has reported the first imported case of Dengue Fever of the year.
A male traveler was found to have a high temperature and then confirmed to have the disease by quarantine inspection officers upon entering Shenzhen at the checkpoint.
The man had been traveling in Vietnam before coming to Shenzhen.
916 probed
SHENZHEN’S Party disciplinary inspection commission and supervision authorities launched investigations against 916 people suspected of disciplinary violations in 2016, an increase of 21.2 percent over the previous year.
Among them, 37 were bureau chief-level officials and 147 were department chief-level officials. A total of 725 people were punished and given demerits, and 72 were handed to the judicial department for their involvement in crimes, according to the Party disciplinary inspection commission.
Arson suspect
A MAN was criminally detained at Sungang Police Station in Luohu District for suspected arson after lighting up some discarded clothes and a computer chair.
The 40-year-old suspect, surnamed Li, lit up the waste at the entrance of an official building on Taoyuan Road in Luohu District on Feb. 4. The fire was later put out by security guards.
An investigation showed that the suspect threatened to light the fire over a dispute with the boss of a company in the building.
Fraudsters charged
A TOTAL of 156 people from 11 companies will be prosecuted for suspected involvement in crimes including scam, starting trouble and the destruction of a business operation, Shenzhen Municipal People’s Procuratorate announced on its official microblog Monday.
Longhua Public Security Subbureau received reports from some victims in 2015, saying that Shenzhen Guangmingfa Information Consultancy Co., Shenzhen Lianqiang Enterprises Management Co. were involved in scams. Police investigated a criminal ring that had been involved in scams by claiming to be an operator of a dozen online e-commerce companies.
The criminal ring also claimed to be the largest business operation agent designated by a TV station, T-mall and Taobao to cheat after winning the trust of online shop owners.
Returning peak
ANOTHER post-festival peak for returning travelers using railway service to Shenzhen is expected to arrive following Saturday, the Lantern Festival, which marks the end of the Spring Festival, according to Shenzhen’s railway authority.
The first post-festival peak started on Feb. 1, the fifth day of the first lunar month. Shenzhen North Railway Station handled 168,700 travelers on the day.
The 25 bus routes departing from Shenzhen Railway Station have extended service hours for arriving passengers. Four routes including N4 and 101 have extended service hours to 4 a.m. and five other routes including 302 and 352 are operating 24 hours a day. Seven bus routes departing from Shenzhen North Railway Station including M352 and M353 have extended service hours to 3 a.m. to handle the high passenger flow.
Drunk drivers
SHENZHEN traffic police checked 50 violations related to driving under the influence of alcohol in a citywide action Tuesday night.
Among them, 16 were detained for drunk driving and will face jail terms of up to six months.
Noro virus patient
THE city’s inspection and quarantine authority detected an arriving traveler who was infected with Noro virus recently.
The Chinese traveler was suspected of having eaten sea food that failed to meet sanitary standards due to his symptoms of fever and vomiting.
Motorcycle death
A DRIVER surnamed Chen, who was injured in a motorcycle accident, died Tuesday after nearly two weeks of treatment.
Chen was riding an unlicensed motorcycle and lost control as he made a sudden turn from Hebei Road to Yanhe Road on Jan. 25, police said.
A passenger was also injured.
Terror rumormonger
A MAN surnamed Qiao who spread a terror-related rumor on WeChat was placed under detention for two days by Long-hua police recently.
Qiao fabricated a terror-related rumor and posted it on WeChat on Feb. 2. He was investigated Sunday and detained.
