DATA from China Mobile showed that the number of Shenzhen users staying in the city on the Lunar New Year’s eve this year was 41.2 percent of the number of users in the city at other times, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.
The big data analysis from China Mobile revealed that most Shenzheners chose to return to their hometowns during the Spring Festival. Around 29.6 percent of users who returned to their hometowns during the holiday were heading to Hunan, Guangxi or Hubei.
The number of users coming to Shenzhen on the Lunar New Year’s eve this year was 31 percent higher than last year. Around 35 percent of them came from cities in Guangdong Province, including Guangzhou, Dongguan and Huizhou, while 61 percent were from other provinces and municipalities, such as Beijing, Hunan and Hubei.
Among users from foreign countries, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, 76.6 percent of them were from Hong Kong. The Window of the World theme park, the Mangrove Nature Reserve and OCT Bay were the most popular destinations for tourists in Shenzhen during the holiday.
Among users who traveled outside of Shenzhen during the holiday, 41 percent of them were heading to other cities in Guangdong, such as Meizhou, Jieyang, Shanwei and Heyuan.
Additionally, quite a few Shenzheners traveled overseas during the holiday as the daily passenger flow at border checkpoints peaked on Jan. 30, while the U.S., Australia and Japan were the most popular destinations.
The peak of China Mobile user traffic in Shenzhen during the holiday was at around 8 p.m. on the Lunar New Year’s eve, while the number of people using video, picture processing and travel apps saw remarkable growth during this year’s holiday. (Zhang Yang)
