    Fake visa

A MAN from Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province, was caught attempting to cross the border from Shenzhen to Hong Kong with a fake U.S. visa at Huanggang Checkpoint.

On Jan. 31, an immigration officer named Chen Wangshuyu found the discrepancy between the traveler and the photo on his passport. The passport was later confirmed to be fake.

An investigation showed that the man wanted to travel to Hong Kong, but failed to obtain a travel permit before the holiday. He used his friend’s passport to try to cross the border.

    Post-festival flights

PRICES for flights from Shenzhen to Changchun, Chengdu, Dalian, Hohhot, Hangzhou, Harbin, Nanjing, Nanning and Shenyang dropped by 70 percent after the Spring Festival holidays, China Southern Airlines said Wednesday.

Fares of air tickets to Chongqing, Kunming, Li-jiang and Wuhan dropped by 80 percent.

The cost of tickets overseas for post-Lantern Festival also dropped sharply. The air fare to Osaka is about 400 yuan (US$58) and to fly to Jeju Island costs 700 yuan.

    Lantern risk

AIRPORT authorities reminded residents not to fly sky lanterns as a way of sending blessings during the Lantern Festival, which falls on Saturday to mark the end of the Spring Festival holiday.

A sky lantern could create hazards for flights. On Feb. 3, three flights reported encountering sky lanterns while landing at the Shenzhen airport, and a dozen flights were delayed because of the risk.

Sky lanterns could also trigger fires, threaten flights and pose dangers to power supplies, telecommunications facilities and high rise buildings.

    Tampered meters

LAW enforcement units from the city’s transport commission seized nine green cabs in the city that were using tampered meters to rip off passengers in a recent action following complaints during the Spring Festival holiday.

Some riders recently complained that green cab drivers who picked up passengers at Shenzhen International Airport, Shenzhen North Railway Station and other public areas had been using tampered meters to overcharge riders.

    Fake safety inspector

A MAN pretended to be a railway safety inspector with a work certificate, a training certificate and attire that he had bought online to avoid paying ticket fares.

The 29-year-old man, surnamed Chen, looked nervous when he attempted to enter the waiting hall at Changping Station where police officers were on duty Tuesday.

Chen claimed to be a safety inspector for Dongguan Station by showing the certificates. The certificates were proved to be fake and Chen admitted that he had bought them online for 600 yuan (US$87.3) to avoid paying for tickets as he traveled between Shenzhen and Guangzhou once or twice every month.

Chen has been detained for 10 days and fined 500 yuan.

    Official prosecuted

YANTIAN People’s Procuratorate has filed charges against Peng Long, former deputy chief of the Luohu District Housing and Construction Bureau, for allegedly taking bribes of 610,000 yuan and HK$200,000 (US$25,779), the city’s procuratorate said on its official microblog Tuesday.

Peng was responsible for the approval and registration of construction projects, construction market supervision, and the contractor bank of budget projects of the government between 2013 and 2016. He took bribes by offering to help with project biddings and enlisting contractors into the project bank.

    Porn performer

A WOMAN who offered porn performances online to viewers was sentenced to seven months in jail by a Nanshan court recently for spreading pornographic content.

The woman was also fined 1,000 yuan. The court verdict showed that she had profited 31,000 yuan for giving online porn performances through a company’s service platform in July last year.

    Chauffeur report

THE service Didi Chauffeur has taken up 75 percent of the market, according to a 2016 Q4 report released by Analysys on Thursday. The chauffeur service has become a newly emerging industry that could help reduce traffic accidents and economic losses.
