Liu Minxia mllmx@msn.com THE doctor and the clinic, which gave a Shenzhen resident an intravenous infusion to treat his cough, violated medical care regulations and will receive punishment after the patient died Feb. 7, Futian District’s health authority said late Thursday. Following a two-day investigation, Futian health bureau found that the doctor, identified as Zhang, who treated the patient surnamed Liu, was not allowed to either practice in the clinic or administer IVs to patients. Zhang was licensed to practice at another clinic in Shenzhen. Both Zhang and the clinic will be punished, the bureau said. Liu was in his 50s, according to his daughter-in-law who gave her surname as Gao. Liu went to the clinic, which was located opposite to his apartment, at around 4 p.m. Tuesday to seek help for his cough and the doctor gave him an IV. Gao said that Liu chatted with family members on WeChat while having the IV. However, when Liu’s son passed by the clinic, called Jiang Shiping Western Medicine Clinic, which is on Linyuan Road East, at around 5:30 p.m., Liu was seen lying unconscious on the ground in the clinic. Liu was rushed to a nearby hospital and declared dead soon afterwards. Futian health bureau said that Liu’s family had demanded an autopsy to verify the cause of Liu’s death. Gao said that Liu was a veteran whose health condition was much better than most people of his age. |
