    Garbage fire

    A GARBAGE recycling station near Guanlan No. 2 Industrial Park caught fire Saturday.

    The fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. Longhua and Guanlan firefighting units sent seven engines and 30 fire fighters to put out the fire, which was put out in five hours. No causalities or economic losses were reported.

    Accident in tunnel

    A VAN driver died after his vehicle rear-ended a truck inside the Maogongbei Tunnel of Danping Expressway in Longgang District on Feb. 7.

    Surveillance camera footage showed that the truck was going at a very low speed and illegally changed lanes inside the tunnel.

    The van driver was suspected of fatigued driving with his wife and father. His wife was injured and the driver died at the hospital the day after the accident, police said.

    Smuggling cases

    BORDER police officers in Shenzhen handled 58 smuggling cases involving 297 million yuan (US$43.15 million) in 2016, a meeting was told Friday.

    A total of 52 snakeheads and 193 stowaways were caught in 20 stowaway cases, and 29.4 kilograms of drugs were seized in two smuggling cases.

    Medical groups

    SHENZHEN will set up at least 10 medical groups comprised of community clinics this year, the health commission said Friday.

    Each subdistrict will have a Class-A community health center and specialist physicians’ workshops will be established at more than 300 community clinics.
