Polish illustrator Piotr Kalinski will exhibit his 60 works at the exhibition “Principio” at ONES in Qianhai. The works are selected from his series, such as “Life Is Elsewhere,” “Notes in the Margins of ‘The Book of Disquiet’” and “Paris, Notes From the Travel.”
Kalinski studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and the studio of Roman Banaszewski, where he designed an artistic layout of the book “R Stands for Roman” by J.Franczak. This includes designing the typography, composition, illustrations and cover of the book.
Since then, he has created many graphics and illustrations for various publications. His work has been appreciated in France, where his graphics have been published in the monograph “Voyage en Auvergne” (2012). Moreover, his graphics are on two covers of the last albums of the independent music group Lonagital.
Over the years, he organized and participated in numerous exhibitions in China, France, Slovakia, Italy, Chroatia, Germany and the Czech Republic.
He created and developed artistic club LOKATOR (2001-2011) that recently has been changed into a bookstore and publishing house. For many years he was an editor-in-chief of the magazine “Mrowkojad” and art magazine “Mrowki w Czekoladzie,” both presenting interesting trends in various fields like photography, literature, book illustration and publishing. He organized several artistic events like “SLOFFEST,” during which Polish audiences were familiarized with Slovak music, and “Psychodeliczny LOKATOR” promoting Polish artists in Slovakia.
Currently, he works mostly on graphics and book editing. Since 2011, he has owned the workshop ATELIER PIO, where he creates and presents his most current publications.
