THREE suspects who were allegedly involved in street violence that led to one death and one injury more than two decades ago were arrested by local police recently after being on the run for years. On April 8, 1995, Longgang police received a report, saying that eight people were chasing two men with handmade guns near a village in Ailian Subdistrict. The suspects continued running along Shenhui Road after they had fired at the two, who lay in a pool of blood. Police arrested five suspects in three weeks, all natives of Dazhou, Sichuan Province. Two of them, Tang Shaolin and Tang Chengyou, were sentenced to death for robbery and homicide, and Tang Baoxun received a suspended death sentence. The two other suspects also got jail terms. However, three other suspects, namely Chen Hui, Cai Jingkun and Zhong Danian, had disappeared for 22 years until they were caught last week. On Feb. 3, a police task force got a clue saying the three suspects had appeared in their hometown of Dazhou. Police got the trace of Chen, but didn’t take action, waiting for their chance. The task force later learned that Cai and Zhong were working in Guangdong’s Zengcheng and Dongguan. On Feb. 8, Longgang police officers took actions and arrested Zhong in Dalang, Donguan, Chen in Dazhou and Cai in Zengcheng, Guangzhou. (Han Ximin) |
