Gold smuggling
A WOMAN was caught by Huanggang Customs smuggling 701.7 grams of gold pieces, with a market value of 210,000 yuan (US$30,578), inside her waist belt when she crossing the border at Huanggang Checkpoint.
The woman, who was carrying snacks and formula milk powder, looked rigid as she walked through the customs inspection area of the checkpoint. When officers waved the detector over her waist, it sent out an alarm. The woman denied hiding anything in her belt.
A closer inspection showed that the back of the belt had been cut open and five thumb-sized gold nuggets, each weighing 140 to 150 grams, were hidden inside.
The case has been handed to the anti-smuggling department for further investigation.
