A COUPLE living in Longgang District was beaten by a group of people on the street in Futian District on Feb. 14, simply because their car was not parked properly, the Shenzhen Evening News reported. According to the couple, the people who beat them were a gang suffering from road rage. “There was no need for them to beat us as if we were unreasonable people,” said the wife surnamed Zhang. She said that they would have certainly moved the car if these people had asked them to, instead of using fists. The husband, known as Chen, was still being treated in a hospital. He needed stitches on his face for multiple injuries. Zhang also had several bruises on her body. The incident happened when Zhang temporarily parked her car near a turning corner in front of the entrance of a residential complex, while she waited for her husband to run some errands nearby. “In only about half a minute, a woman walked up to pull on my car door and yelled at me,” said Zhang, adding that the woman was angrily saying that she could drive for her if Zhang did not know how to drive. Feeling threatened, Zhang pulled her door back with strength, and it took her two attempts to close the door. “There’s no need for you to drive for me, I know how to drive,” she then shouted back, adding that they would leave soon. However, the woman did not stop or walk away. Instead, she kept standing beside the car and using abusive language, said Zhang. Chen rushed back to the car and promised to leave right away. After Chen got into the car, a man came up and opened the door. A group of people followed the man and dragged Chen out. They started to beat him hard, leaving his face bloodied and his glasses broken. One of the men, in a blue T-shirt, approached Chen and started to beat him with a chair. The fight lasted for nearly five minutes with seven to eight men and women beating him before they left in cars, said Chen. Video footage shows that a woman in a pink shirt was chasing Zhang, but was eventually stopped by a witness. The woman was yelling something like “I can drive for you if you don’t know how to drive, and you don’t need to say abusive words to me at first.” The couple later called police for help. Zhang admitted that the incident was their fault for parking the car there. Police are handling the case. (Zhang Qian) |
