A DRIVER surnamed Yang is being investigated for obstructing a police check, Shenzhen’s traffic police bureau said on its microblog yesterday.
Yang was caught by police at a roadside driving under the influence of alcohol check in Longgang District on Saturday night. A roadside breath test showed that the alcohol content in his blood had reached 518 milligrams per 100 milliliters, probably the highest in the city’s roadside DUI check history.
According to police, if a driver’s blood alcohol content reaches 200 milligrams per 100 milliliters, 2.5 times the legal content of 80 milligrams per 100 milliliters, the driver is probably heavily intoxicated and unable to drive a car. However, Yang seemed sober, calm and capable of driving.
Yang was then taken to a hospital for a blood test, but the result was an astonishing 0 milligrams per 100 milliliters. An investigation showed that Yang had sipped a mouthful of red wine three hours before he was caught. He was frightened when he saw that police were checking for people driving under the influence of alcohol, and to evade punishment he sprayed a mouth-cleaning spray into his mouth several times before he was ordered to take a test. The spray contained alcohol, which made it seem like Yang was intoxicated.
