Promenade without guardrails causes concern
    2017-February-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A PROMENADE without guardrails on its edges has caused concern among residents who fear for the safety of the children playing on it.

In response to residents’ complaints, the urban management bureau in Yantian District said that it would strengthen daily management of Yantian Central Park where the promenade is located.

Located between the office building of Yantian District Government and a coastal road, the park is divided into a southern zone and a northern zone and the promenade is located in the southern zone, a Shenzhen Special Zone Daily report said yesterday.

A major scenic spot in the southern zone, the promenade extends along a 500-meter-long artificial river with no guardrails on the river banks.

Children could be seen playing on the banks and their parents could be heard reminding them once in a while: “Be careful! Don’t fall into the river.”

“The water is not very deep now, but its depth can reach up to 60 centimeters when it rains heavily,” a woman surnamed Wang was quoted as telling a Daily reporter. “Many children from nearby housing estates play here, but the safety hazards are big.”

The district urban management bureau said that it would encourage residents to play near the promenade in a civilized way to ensure safety and order.
