THE judiciary system regarding environmental protection in Shenzhen is expected to be enhanced as a document publicized recently has mapped out a proposal to set up special police and courts to fight against environmental issues, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.
A working plan on tackling the city’s major environmental issues was released by the local authority recently, outlining Shenzhen’s vexing problems regarding the environment and measures to be taken to solve the problems.
A total of 61 corrective measures are going to be taken between 2017 and 2020, according to the working plan. The measures include renovating garbage plants, improving water quality and shutting down over 3,000 factories and low-end companies that produce serious pollution by 2020.
Among all of the environmental issues, water pollution stands out in Shenzhen. The local authority vows to improve water quality citywide. A total of 133 rivers of various lengths will be treated and assessed within the 13th Five-year Plan period, which ends in 2020.
Additionally, the plan reveals that Shenzhen will complete eight operations this year to renovate existing garbage plants. Specific measures include building landfills for household garbage, treating the stink near garbage plants and so on.
The plan also highlights that starting this year, government agencies of all levels will take responsibilities in treating rivers. (Zhang Qian)
