WHEN Tom Thibodeau was named the head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves, it was believed the young team would instantly contend for a playoff spot in the Western Conference. However, it is past the midway point of the season, and the Wolves are still stuck in mediocrity despite their young talent playing well.
The team is desperately looking for change and are seeking for established veterans to help guide the young players. In the wake of adding a veteran piece, the Timberwolves have reportedly reached out the New York Knicks about possibly dealing for Derrick Rose.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have had recent talks with the Knicks about a Derrick Rose trade, ESPN sources said Monday.
Rose played under coach Thibodeau for seven seasons when the two were in Chicago, which would make him the ideal point guard addition. With Zach LaVine injured, the Timberwolves could use another explosive backcourt player, who also possesses the ability to make plays and handle the ball.
It is unclear what the Timberwolves are willing to give up to attain Rose, but the Knicks are certainly open to a trade especially since Rose will become a free agent this summer.
Despite having a history of constant knee injuries, Rose has been relatively healthy this season, only missing a small portion of the year due to back spasms and an ankle sprain. He has been averaging 17.7 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.7 rebounds in 48 games.
Phil Jackson acquired Rose last summer to assemble a star-studded starting lineup, but the team has been underperforming, making essentially everyone on the roster available for trade. For the Timberwolves, they’ve been shopping Ricky Rubio and Shabazz Muhammad for quite sometime now, which makes people think that the two would be involved in any trade scenario.(SD-Agencies)
