Futian cave-in may be related to renovation project
    2017-02-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A 3-METER-DEEP hole appeared after the ground beside the Caifu Building in Futian District collapsed Monday afternoon, and the cave-in is believed to be related to an ongoing urban renewal project nearby, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.

An app-based bike fell into the big hole, which has a diameter of 3 meters. An officer with the land collapse prevention office in Futian District, identified as Huang, said that no casualties had been reported in the accident.

Huang said that sewage was gushing out of the hole Monday night, and his office had to pump water out with two water pumps before filling the hole with 11 truckloads of sand. The area around the cave-in was closed off Tuesday.

The office entrusted an agency to conduct a site survey Tuesday. A staffer from the office said that the cave-in might have been related to the urban renewal project in the nearby Gangxia Village.

The general contractor of the urban renewal project had also entrusted a third party to conduct a survey on the site, and the results were expected to come out yesterday. (Zhang Yang)
