Airport turnover
SHENZHEN airport handled a total of 5.09 million passengers during the 40-day Spring Festival transport season, an increase of 9.46 percent over the same period last year.
The number of international passengers reached 20,000 in January, an increase of 58.3 percent.
Phone accident
A DRIVER who lost control of his car while picking up his phone killed a man on a bicycle and knocked down a lamp post and road fence on Songbai Road in Bao’an District.
Monitoring cameras showed that the vehicle hit the man and then the road fence before coming to a stop. The driver admitted to losing control of the steering wheel while trying to pick up his phone.
Bay area road work
A TOTAL of 10 branch roads will join three major roads including Wanghai Road, Youlun Boulevard and Taiziwan Boulevard to improve the traffic conditions near Shekou Cruise Homeport.
The road projects, 7.57 kilometers in length, are part of a land development project in the area. Some of the projects were initiated in January and all will be finished in March 2019.
Bicycle parking
LUOHU District will set up 239 parking locations for app-based bikes in the district to regulate bicycle services.
The Dongmen Pedestrian Business Street will ban bicycles from entering. Illegally parked vehicles will be towed away.
Back wages retrieved
SHENZHEN courts handled a total of 1,025 salary dispute cases in 2016 and retrieved a total of 22.21 million yuan (US$3.24 million) for 1,447 migrant workers.
Legal aid was also provided to 62 people and 2.4 million yuan in aid funds was given out.
