Temperatures start to rise today
    2017-February-27  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

TEMPERATURES will start to rise today after a cold weekend with low temperatures hitting 10 degrees Celsius.

In the coming week, the city will be cloudy with sunny periods and cool mornings, the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory said, suggesting residents make efforts to keep warm and to make sure their apartments are well-ventilated.

The cold air that affected the city since Thursday brought light rain and temperatures to 8-12 degrees Celsius on Friday and Saturday. The observatory issued a yellow alert for cold.

The weekend cold air is the second round of cold air that has affected the city in February.

Statistics from the Shenzhen Medical Emergency Center showed that a total of 36 people suffered carbon monoxide poisoning and three of them died between Feb. 1 and 24.

The latest case involved a middle-aged woman in Longgang District who took a shower in a poorly ventilated room. The woman lost consciousness after suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning and was taken to Longgang Central Hospital for treatment.

Shenzhen residents had just experienced the warmest Spring Festival in the city’s 53-year meteorological history with an average temperature of 19.5 degrees Celsius over the six days.
