A RUN-DOWN house has been put up for auction — with a starting price of just £1 (US$1.26). The terraced property, in Sacriston, Durham, Britain, has two bedrooms, an entrance hall, living room, kitchen-dining room and a rear porch. The house also has a basement and is located near several schools that have been rated as outstanding by Ofsted, including Sacriston Primary School. After being unoccupied for around 10 years, it needs around £30,000 to improve the condition. Images of the property show a run-down kitchen, dated wallpaper, dirty carpets and discarded furniture. However, despite its flaws, the property has maintained several of its original features and boasts spacious rooms. Other houses nearby range from £70,000 to £100,000. Michael Hughes, manager for estate agents Robinsons that is auctioning off the property, said the property belonged to someone who died several years ago. He said, “It is on a nice terrace in a popular village which isn’t far from Durham city center, Chester-le-Street town center and is near the A1.” “The house could be really beautiful.” After being boarded up three years ago, locals describe the property as the “boarded up house.” It is thought that it will be sold for between £30,000 to £40,000. The auction will take place April 4.(SD-Agencies) |
