Three free concerts at SZ Concert Hall
    2017-February-28  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Three shows will be presented free of charge at the Shenzhen Concert Hall on three Sunday afternoons. Audience members can claim free tickets at szyyt.com.

On March 5, local musicians Yuan Yilin (guzheng), Li Jiaqi (piano), Zhao Yu (erhu), Gao Yuejiao (guzheng) and Li Zihan (percussion) will collaborate for a guzheng concert. The guzheng, also known as the Chinese zither, is a Chinese plucked string instrument with more than 2,500 years of history. It has 16 or more strings and movable bridges. It has a large, resonant cavity made from wutong wood. Other components are often made from other woods for structural or decorative reasons.

On March 12, Chinese pianist Yuan Jie will give a lecture on classical music. A doctoral degree holder of The Juilliard School, Yuan won the gold medal at the 8th Crescendo International Music Awards, the silver medal at the 4th Shanghai International Piano Competition, the gold medal at the Bechstein International Piano Competition and the gold medal at the 2009 Seattle International Piano Competition. He was also top prize winner of Ferruccio Busoni International Competition, Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and Hamamatsu International.

On March 19, Brazilian piano duo Fabio and Gisele Witkowski will play four-hand piano arrangements of various classical pieces. The New York Concert Review has described their performance as “showing marvelous rubato and tremendously clean playing, with a lovely sense of tone.”

Gisele’s Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall solo recital debut was hailed as “the most genuinely fascinating recital debut in many a moon” by New York Concert Review. Fabio’s playing has been described as having “many passages of bravura, sensitivity and pearly agility” by The Hartford Courant.

In addition to performing with orchestras, they enjoy a busy academic life, both teaching at the Hotchkiss School, where Fabio is the chairman of the music department. They have appeared as guest artists and professors in several music festivals.

    Time: 3 p.m., March 5, 12, 19

Venue: Shenzhen Concert Hall, intersection of Hongli Road and Yitian Road, Futian District (福田区红荔路和益田路交汇处深圳音乐厅)
