Car plate lottery

    A TOTAL of 626,233 local residents participated in a lottery for the 2,934 car license plates, while only 0.46 percent of them won a license plate in the latest round of lotteries in February.

    In the auction, the average price for a plate reached 29,584 yuan (US$4,306), Shenzhen’s car license plate administration said.

    E-bike fire

    TWO employees of a fast-food restaurant were detained due to a fire in the restaurant that was caused by an e-bike they were charging. There were no injuries reported in the morning fire on Taibai Road in Luohu District on Saturday.

    Conviction appeals

    A FORMER official with Shenzhen Municipal Politics and Law Committee of the CPC, who was sentenced to five years in jail for patronizing prostitutes and taking bribes, appealed the court’s ruling.

    At the first trial, the official, surnamed Wang, was sentenced to 11 years in jail for taking 820,000 yuan in bribes. During the second trial, Wang received five years in jail because of a new amendment to the judicial interpretation that took effect in April 2016, measuring the penalty between three to 10 years for bribery between 200,000 and 3 million yuan.

    Wang, 58, appealed by claiming that a local company had taken revenge on him.

    According to the prosecutors, the company, Yibao company, brought Wang to court because he had done nothing to resolve a dispute between the company and others after Wang took 690,000 yuan from the company.

    Police official probed

    A POLICE official and his five subordinates in Guangming New Area are being investigated for allegedly taking bribes, the city’s procuratorate said on its official microblog Monday.

    Leng, deputy chief of the Guangming Sub-bureau of the city’s public security bureau, and Zhang, head of Gongming Police Station, along with four others were suspected of taking bribes from some nightclubs involved in prostitution services.

    New campus

    THE Fuqiang and Qiaocheng campuses of Shenzhen No. 2 Vocational School were officially put into use Monday, the first school day for the vocational school.

    Each campus is equipped with 100 rooms for training and teaching. The school now has 4,300 students and 370 teaching faculties.
