    Carbon monoxide

    TWO more people died of carbon monoxide poisoning over the weekend in Shenzhen due to a cold snap that brought minimum temperatures down to below 10 degrees Celsius in the city.

    In February, Shenzhen Medical Emergency Center received calls for 45 carbon monoxide poisonings, out of which five people died.

    Road collapse

    A CAVE-IN caused a 6-meter-long and 6-meter-wide hole on Shenyan Road near Yantian District Power Supply Bureau on Monday morning. No injuries or casualties were reported in the accident.

    A preliminary investigation showed that the cave-in was caused by work on a Metro project. Workers have refilled the hole.

    Guangming hospital

    THE largest public hospital in Shenzhen, the No. 7 Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University in Guangming New Area, will be put into operation in July this year, offering 800 beds in its first-phase construction period.

    Corrupt official jailed

    WANG SHUAITING, a former general manager with China Travel Service Hong Kong Ltd., was sentenced to 16 years in jail for taking bribes and embezzling funds.

    Wang was also fined 1.2 million yuan (US$173,913), a verdict of Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court showed Monday.

    The verdict showed that Wang had been abusing his power between 2003 and 2013 as chairman and president of China Resources Power (Holdings) Co. to take bribes totaling 40 million yuan and embezzle funds totaling 4.09 million yuan from the corporation between 2006 and 2011.

    Minimum subsistence

    THE minimum subsistence standard in Shenzhen will be raised from 800 yuan (US$116) a month to 900 yuan starting yesterday, a meeting was told Monday.

    It is the fourth time that the city has raised the standard. At present, around 6,000 people, whose family’s average income is below the minimum living standard, are expected to benefit from the increase.

    ID-based bus tickets

    TRAVELERS taking inter-city or inter-province long-distance buses need to use their IDs or other valid certificates such as residence cards, passports, and hukou or military service certificates to buy tickets, according to a rule issued by the Ministry of Transportation that took effect yesterday.

    Those who buy their tickets online or over the telephone should provide their ID cards for confirmation when they collect their tickets at ticket offices.

    Flight to Cambodia

    CHINA Southern Airlines will open a route between Shenzhen and Phnom Penh, the capital and biggest city of Cambodia, on March 26.

    The flight, CZ8467, will operate on a daily basis. It will depart from Shenzhen at 9 a.m. and arrive in Phnom Penh at 10:35 a.m. Flight CZ8468 will depart from Cambodia at 11:40 a.m. and arrive in Shenzhen at 3:15 p.m. (local time), the airline’s Shenzhen company said.
