SHENZHEN Ecaray Technology Co., the developer of an intelligent car plate recognition system, is upgrading the fee payment system used in some parking lots, after new-energy car drivers complained that their cars couldn’t be recognized.

    Shenzhen started issuing six-digit car plates for new-energy cars at the end of 2016. However, some drivers complained that the toll fee system at most parking lots only recognizes the traditional five-digit car plates for gas-powered cars. This has caused inconvenience for new-energy car drivers trying to use the parking lots.

    A driver, surnamed Li, bought a new-energy car in December, but soon found that the parking lots in Coco Park and the neighboring Rainbow Department Store couldn’t recognize his six-digit car plate. As is the case in some other parking lots, there weren’t any employees on duty, Li had to drive to another place to park.

    Shenzhen is among the five cities in China that introduced special car plates for new-energy vehicles in December last year. So far, there are around 85,000 registered new-energy cars in the city. (Han Ximin)
