A cappella fun with Voca People
    2017-March-7  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Israel-based ensemble The Voca People will grace Shenzhen Concert Hall again in May. The troupe, with their terrific vocal skills and hilarious stage performances, won over local audiences back in 2015.

The band’s performance combines a cappella and beat-box vocals to reproduce the sounds of an entire orchestra. Having done 400 performances on Broadway, the show has toured Spain, Hungary, Italy, France, England, Israel and many other places since 2013.

They incorporate the public into their songs and change or add bits depending on which country they are in. For example, when they perform in Spain, they perform songs in Spanish and incorporate the Spanish public into their performance.

The creators, Lior Kalfon and Shai Fishman, envisioned a group of performers dressed completely in white with red lips. Their appearance and performances have been compared to Blue Man Group.

The Voca People claim to come from the Planet Voca (somewhere behind the Sun) where all communication is based on music and vocal expressions. Their motto is, “Life is music and music is life.”

They floated through space on their ship, which is powered by nothing more than music. After a millennia of space travel, The Voca People are finally landing on the unfamiliar planet of Earth, sadly discovering that their precious spaceship charger — musical energy — is completely empty and are now stuck here. Slowly, The Voca People have learned to adapt to Earth, and with the help of the audience, they’ll be able to musically energize their unique spaceship. Audiences will hear a medley of some 70 songs while enjoying the humorous performance.
