Illegal diesel trade
POLICE and customs officers recently raided three dens and arrested 10 suspects involved in smuggling diesel from Hong Kong and selling it in Shenzhen in an action in Shiyan Subdistrict, Bao’an District.
As the fuel prices in Hong Kong are cheaper than those on the mainland, some Hong Kong truck drivers sell the fuel in their tank for 3.6 yuan (US$0.52) per liter to illegal fuel traders involved in the business.
A Hong Kong driver could earn abut 500 yuan by selling 800 liters at a time. The traders would then sell the fuel for 3.8 yuan per liter to some gas stations, transportation companies and construction sites, the police said.
