French-language movies on show

    Six French-language movies will be shown at B Park starting this weekend. Entry is free but moviegoers need to sign up at the organizer’s WeChat (bpark_001).

    ‘Ni le Ciel ni la Terre’

    (‘The Wakhan Front’)

    Director: Clément Cogitore

    Plot: While on a mission in Afghanistan, French captain Antarès Bonassieu’s men start vanishing one by one without explanation.

    Time: 7:30 p.m., March 10

    ‘Felix et Meira’ (‘Felix and Meira’)

    Director: Maxime Giroux

    Plot: An improbable affair begins between two Montreal residents, one a married woman from a devoutly Jewish family and community, and the other a single French Canadian man with his own family issues.

    Time: 7:30 p.m., March 15

    ‘Le Chant des Hommes’

    (‘Rising Voices’)

    Director: Bénédicte Liénard, Mary Jimenez

    Plot: Refugees from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Congo, Morocco and Niger occupy a church. They will risk their lives for asylum. Days of countdown begin; a test of strength in itself. Exhaustion increases; tensions rise. But bonds are forged and strengthened. Between betrayal and brotherhood, the group will have to put itself to the test, and face up to the challenge.

    ‘L’Africain qui Voulait Voler’ (‘The African Who Wanted to Fly’)

    Director: Samantha Biffot

    Plot: This is the story of a kid who wanted to fly like Chinese fighters, so he tackled his destiny and entered the legendary Shaolin Temple at the age of 15. His saga begins when he’s 10 and starts shooting his own kung-fu films with his friends in the streets of Koulamoutou, Gabon.

    Time: 7:30 p.m., March 22

    ‘Ma Vie de Courgette’ (‘My Life as a Zucchini’)

    Director: Claude Barras

    Plot: After losing his mother, a young boy is sent to a foster home with other orphans his age where he begins to learn the meaning of trust and true love.

    Time: 7:30 p.m., March 24

    ‘Le Demantelement’ (‘The Dismantling’)

    Director: Sébastien Pilote

    Plot: Gaby owns a farm on which he raises lambs. He has two daughters who live far away in the big city. One day, the oldest asks him for some financial support. Gaby, for whom fatherhood has evolved to a point where it has become unreasonable, decides to dismantle the farm.

    Time: 7:30 p.m., March 29
