Reporting app
THE city’s public security bureau will launch an app Friday to allow people to report clues related to crimes in a more convenient way.
The bureau set up a crime-reporting hotline, 2222-2110, on July 22, 2009. Over the past eight years, the center has received more than 86,000 clues, nearly 17,000 of which have been confirmed to be valid.
Using the clues they obtained, the police have cracked more than 42,000 cases of various kinds and caught more than 460 fugitives. The total amount of rewards handed out to whistleblowers have reached more than 38.5 million yuan (US$5.57 million).

Work safety
TEN people have been killed in falls from high places since the start of this year, the city’s work safety administration said Thursday. Work units across the city have been ordered to take practical and effective measures to prevent similar work safety accidents.
Since 2016, falls from high places have become one of the major work safety accidents in Shenzhen. The accidents were mainly recorded in fields such as construction, decoration, outer-wall cleaning, equipment installation and facility inspection and maintenance. Failing to conform to relevant policies and regulations, giving commands that go against the rules and inadequate protection have been blamed for the accidents.
