A SHENZHEN resident was asked to pay 92 yuan (US$13) for using a Bluegogo bike after she forgot to end the trip on the bike-sharing app, the Daily Sunshine reported yesterday.
The resident, surnamed Liu, was shocked when she found that she was charged 92 yuan four days after she used a Bluegogo bike to get home from her office Wednesday. The app showed that she was still using the bike Sunday, and that she had been “riding” for 92 hours and 58 minutes.
“I thought that the bike had been stolen when I saw that it was used for 93 hours,” Liu said, adding that if she hadn’t checked the app Sunday, the calculation of the cost may have continued to grow.
According to Liu, she unlocked the Bluegogo bike near a Metro station Wednesday, but the bike looked different from the Bluegogo bikes she had used before because it didn’t have a basket. After she arrived home, she locked the bike as usual and reset the bike’s coded lock.
She didn’t know that the trip hadn’t really ended until she checked the app Sunday afternoon. The app didn’t remind her about the ongoing trip over the four days.
The app wouldn’t allow her to use another bike unless she paid 92 yuan for the trip, and she didn’t get any response after she reported the case to the app’s operator.
After the reporter called Bluegogo, a customer service officer said that the bike that Liu had used was one of the second-generation bikes launched recently by the company.
The officer said that those bikes are different from the previous Bluegogo bikes. Apart from locking the bikes and resetting the coded locks, users also have to end the trips on their phones to stop the calculation of the riding fees.
As Liu didn’t end the trip on her phone, the system continued calculating the cost for over 92 hours. The officer said that they had verified the case and canceled the extra fees for Liu.(Zhang Yang)
