Man detained for evading alimony
    2017-March-15  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A man was put under judicial detention after he had evaded paying alimony for 10 years. The man, surnamed Xu, eventually settled the case outside of court with his ex-wife.

The case, handled by Bao'an District People's Court, has been selected as one of the top 10 enforcement cases handled by China's courts in 2016.

Xu divorced his wife in 2006 and was ordered by the Bao'an court to pay a monthly alimony. He later disappered and all of the court's efforts to locate him proved fruitless.

With the help of the public security authority, the Bao'an court discovered in early 2016 that Xu had changed his ID card number and name when he applyied for a second-generation ID card. He was able to slip through the loophole undetected because his ID card number happened to be the same as that of another person.

The Bao'an court immediately adopted measures to restrict him from going abroad. Xu was detained while trying to go abroad July 15, 2016.

The conclusion of the case has been lauded for providing a way to prevent people that are subject to enforcement from evading their obligations by changing their ID information.
