Lacrimosa to play gothic rock
    2017-March-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Lacrimosa will perform a show in Shenzhen as part of its China Vision Tour.

Lacrimosa is a gothic duo led by German Tilo Wolff, the main composer, and Finn Anne Nurmi. They are currently based in Switzerland. Originally counted among the bands of the Neue Deutsche Todeskunst genre, Lacrimosa has developed their style more toward powerful metal, but gothic elements remain.

Their current musical style mixes gothic rock and heavy metal along with violin, trumpet and other classical instruments, though their musical development throughout the years has also led to changes in instrumentation. Lacrimosa’s lyrics are written almost exclusively in German, however since the 1995 album “Inferno,” every album has featured one or two songs in English, usually written by Nurmi. Finnish has also appeared in the spoken intro to two songs (“Schakal” on “Inferno” and “The Turning Point” on “Elodia”) and on a bonus track in a limited edition release of “Fassade” called “Vankina.” Their lyrics are mainly about loneliness, sadness, darkness, despair and love.

The band has sold more than 20,000 copies of each album in Germany and has also gained a large fanbase in Mexico and China.

Gothic rock, also referred to as goth rock or simply goth, is a musical subgenre of post-punk and alternative rock that formed during the late 1970s. Gothic rock bands grew from the strong ties they had to the English punk rock and emerging post-punk scenes. Proto-gothic bands include Joy Division, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus and the Cure.

The genre itself was defined as a separate movement from post-punk due to its darker music accompanied by introspective and romantic lyrics. Gothic rock then gave rise to a broader subculture that included clubs, fashion and publications in the 1980s.
