Rescued man turns out to be fugitive
    2017-March-17  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A MAN, who was saved from jumping off the third floor of a residential building in Longgang District on Monday, was later found by police to be a fugitive who had injured two people about two years ago.

The man, surnamed Zhu, was found clinging to the security net between the fourth and fifth floors of the residential building on Sunday afternoon. Firefighters arrived at the scene after residents living nearby reported it to the police, but Zhu ignored their efforts to rescue him.

With the assistance of multiple departments, the firefighters evacuated passers-by around the building and set up an air cushion in case Zhu fell from the building.

After negotiating for about 17 hours into the next morning, Zhu eventually fell onto the cushion because he was too exhausted to cling to the net anymore. He was then taken to a nearby hospital.

After investigation, the police discovered that Zhu was actually a fugitive who had stabbed his ex-girlfriend and the woman’s boyfriend in Zhejiang Province in May 2015.

Zhu confessed that he thought he had murdered the two people and was scared to death of the police every day. He had come to Longgang two days before the incident and decided to escape his guilt and fear by killing himself. (Zhang Qian)
