Late SZ doctor honored
    2017-March-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A SHENZHEN doctor, who died of liver cancer in 2016, was honored one of the Most Beautiful Doctors by the State-run television network CCTV, the Daily Sunshine reported yesterday.

The doctor, Xu Lin, had been working at the city’s emergency center for over 20 years. He was at the forefront when SARS hit Shenzhen in 2003, and he joined an emergency team in Sichuan Province in 2008 when an 8-magnitude earthquake left nearly 70,000 people dead in the area.

Xu didn’t give up his duties as an emergency doctor after he was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2013. He barely stopped working until the cancer took his life Jan. 6, 2016 at the age of 57.

Xu was honored a “Good Samaritan in Guangdong” by the provincial civilization office and a “Good Samaritan in China” by the Central Government’s civilization office last year.

Along with Xu, nine other outstanding doctors from across the country were honored the Most Beautiful Doctors by CCTV on Thursday, including a 95-year-old professor named Wu Mengchao, who has been hailed as the “pioneer of China’s liver surgery.” (Zhang Yang)
