    Cancer hospital

    THE Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences will set up a cancer hospital in cooperation with the Shenzhen Public Hospital Management Center.

    According to an agreement signed Friday, the hospital will be renovated on the base of Baohe Hospital. The first phase of construction covers an area of 96,400 square meters with a floor space of 139,600 square meters and will offer 800 beds.

    New school

    THE Shenzhen School of the Middle School Affiliated with Remin University of China, the first high school in Dapeng New Area, will open in September this year, offering 3,000 school slots.

    The new school includes a teaching building, an arts building, a gym, a library and dormitory buildings for both students and teachers.

    The latest ranking shows that the Middle School Affiliated with Remin University of China ranks No. 1 among public high schools in China.

    Patent applications

    ZTE and Huawei, two Shenzhen-based multinationals, filed the most applications under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) in 2016, figures from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on Thursday showed.

    Among the top 10 PCT applicants, seven of the companies were from Asia, and the remaining three were U.S. companies.

    Teen injured

    AN 11-year-old child was seriously injured after he fell from a moving truck, which he clung onto at an intersection in Longgang District last week. He will be held fully responsible for the incident, police said on its official microblog Saturday.

    The teenager, surnamed Yu, climbed onto the rear of the truck, which was waiting for a red light at an intersection on Baogan Road in Nanwan Subdistrict. Yu is now in stable condition.

    Allergic shock

    A MAN was brought to Shenzhen People’s Hospital by ambulance after he suffered from allergic shock on a bus Friday night. His lips turned blue and his skin was covered by a rash when he passed out. He recovered consciousness at the hospital after doctors gave him emergency treatments, and he left the hospital after receiving a check-up.

    Rainy days ahead

    THE weather will be cloudy and rainy this week and residents are advised to bring umbrellas with them in case of a sudden shower.

    Heavy rains will hit the city along with thunderstorms tonight and tomorrow. The rainfall will gradually decrease Thursday.

    Maker factory

    JOINTLY built by Chaihuo Maker Space and Vanke, a maker factory named x.factory was set up in Nanshan District last week. Besides providing space and tools, the center also focuses on organizing events for makers to communicate and innovate together.
