App-based bus company sees more passengers
    2017-March-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SU WENYAN is one lucky dog, becoming the 5 millionth passenger to take the app-based bus called “e Bus,” a service provided by Shenzhen Eastern Public Transportation Co.

As the company’s luckiest passenger, Su can enjoy free rides on e Bus for a whole year. She agreed that she was very lucky to save a total of nearly 4,000 yuan (US$579) on bus fees.

The public transportation company announced Sunday that the number of its passengers had reached a record figure of 5 million, which suggested that the company had achieved the leading place among app-based buses in Shenzhen.

Also, the company announced that it would further expand its e Bus service and increase the number of bus routes from the current 555 to 1,100. More diversified services, such as customized travel buses and airport shuttle buses, will be launched this year, according to the company.

The e Bus was introduced to Shenzhen residents in January last year. Passengers can book seats on the “Shenzhen e Bus” app. Each route is customized by the passengers themselves according to their departure locations and destinations.

All of the buses are electric buses with zero polluting emissions and the fees are the same as regular public transportation.

The city’s transport commission held a work meeting earlier this year, announcing its determination to encourage the development of app-based buses and ride sharing in order to bring convenience to residents as well as to be environmentally friendly. (Zhang Qian)
