Concert pays homage to Clara Schumann
    2017-March-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Pianist Chantal Largier and mezzosoprano Eva Wenniges will present “Clara, Robert and Brahms — A Story of Three,” a piano recital with vocal performances to depict the life story of German musician Clara Schumann and her relations with husband Robert Schumann and friend Brahms.

Clara Schumann was considered one of the most distinguished pianists of the Romantic era. She exerted her influence over a 61-year concert career, changing the format and repertoire of the piano recital and the tastes of the listening public.

The program will include Chopin’s “Fantasie Impromptu Op. 66,” Liszt’s “Dante Sonata,” Clara Schumann’s “Three Romances op.21” and “Ballade No.6” and Brahms’ “Rhapsody in G Minor, Op. 79, No. 2.”

Pianist Largier was born and grew up in Zurich, Switzerland, and later moved to Japan with her parents. She was a prize-winner at the 14th Youth Music Harmony Competition in Tokyo. In 2002, she started her degree studies at the Music Academy in Basel, and was awarded her piano teaching diploma in 2008 and BA in music and movement. In 2013 she completed her MA in music performance at the Zurich University of the Arts.

With her experience as a soloist and chamber musician, Largier commands a broad repertoire that extends from the works of the Baroque to contemporary pieces. In 2012-2013 she collaborated with the Ensemble of the Zurich University of Arts on the project “Arc-en-Ciel,” which explores and performs contemporary music of a high caliber.

She regularly attends international master courses and was taught by well-known pianists like Elisso Virsaladze, Friedemann Rieger, Akiko Ebi, Paul Coker and Marc Pantillion. She has given many solo and chamber music concerts throughout China.

Mezzosoprano Wenniges has appeared as a soloist in concerts internationally. Throughout her career she performed the solo parts of great works such as Mozart’s “Requiem” and Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio.” Wenniges also succeeded academically both as a student and as an instructor. She held scholarships from different organizations such as the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and the L-Bank. In April 2011 she entered a two-year scholarship program of Baden Wuerttemberg that aims to support women on their way to professorship. In 2011-2015, Wenniges was a voice instructor at the University of Music, Trossingen in Germany.
