SHENZHEN Software Industrial Park, which houses hundreds of technology companies with 30,000 employees, became the city’s first app-based car leasing service center with the launch of 30 PonyCar light new-energy vehicles Friday.
Users can register on the PonyCar public account, by uploading their ID and driver’s license information and paying a 500-yuan (US$72.67) deposit, before driving away in a vehicle. The fee is 0.8 yuan per kilometer.
Liu Yixun, founder of PonyCar, said that the company had tried to be an app-based car leasing service provider by expanding in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. In Shenzhen, it will put a fleet of 300 cars into operation through cooperation with Shenzhen Bay Co. Ltd. for commuters in Shenzhen Software Industrial Park.
After using the vehicles, the users need to park them in designated places and complete the service through the app. Liu hopes that PonyCar will be the automobile version of Mobike, said to be the largest app-based bicycle renting service provider in China.
Yang Dequn, vice manager with Shenzhen Bay Co. Ltd., said that the company would integrate resources in the software park, improve electricity charging services and create a “home” for the app-based car leasing service.
