Fire death
A MAN living in a watch tower in an urban village in Buji, Longgang District, died in a fire Monday.
The watch tower is located in the center of Laoxu Village near a wet market.
According to Longgang police, the victim had rented a room in the tower from the landlord, who claimed that Cai was drunk when the fire started.
The cause is still under investigation.
Sudden death
A MAN suddenly died while he was walking on Guiyuan Road in Luohu District on Sunday. The man suddenly collapsed when he walked by Dianying Building.
Police have confirmed the death.
Flood season
THE Shenzhen Municipal Government has required related agencies to get fully prepared for the coming flood season, which is expected to arrive in early or the middle of April. About 30 rounds of torrential rain are expected to affect the city during the flood season. The first typhoon is expected to arrive in the latter part of June.
Polluters fined
THE city’s law enforcement office for environmental protection fined 1,688 polluters in 2016 for a total of 152 million yuan (US$22.03 million), which is a new record.
Among them, 13 polluters were fined more than 1 million yuan each, a meeting of the office said recently.

P2P firms closed
TEN P2P companies, or peer-to-peer online lending platforms, got into trouble in the past month, including five which were closed, according to the Southern Metropolis Daily. Four others are facing problems paying back funds and interest to investors, while one is upgrading its business.
