A SPECIAL campaign was launched to crack down on school bullying by inviting social organizations to participate in operations to curb school bullying.
The Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) joined hands with Judicial and Law Enforcement Committee of Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC, as well as the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau to inaugurate the campaign focusing on raising legal awareness among teenagers and preventing school bullying Monday, also the 22nd National Safety Education Day for students.
One of the major objectives of the campaign was to incorporate more social organizations into curbing school bullying, which has been widely seen among student cohorts in recent years. It is the first time in China that social organizations have been invited to make contributions to curb school bullying.
“Social organizations are being introduced, for the first time in China, to participate in efforts aimed at stopping school bullying, and we believe it is also a positive exploration of how the force of social organizations can effectively be used to aid grass-roots social management,” said Liu Guangyang, chief of the Shenzhen committee of the Communist Youth League.
Liu explained that the committee had selected an array of outstanding projects from social organizations all around the city designed to tackle bullying in schools. The projects were included in a special project bank designed to systematically provide solutions to tackle the problems of school bullying.
A project promotion session was also held that day for a batch of selected social organizations to present their anti-bullying projects.
Apart from bringing in more social help, the committee also announced it would support anti-bullying campaigns with funds and revenues for holding events. Additionally, a special foundation was set up on the same day to support the campaign with an initial fund of 100,000 yuan (US$14,530) donated by the Shenzhen Youth Development Foundation and Shenzhen Hetu Education Foundation.
“Our ultimate goal is to make the best use of social forces to enhance the system that guides and organizes teenagers in Shenzhen to have better and sustainable development without being involved in school bullying,” said Zhu Runsu, head of the department of community and rights of Shenzhen committee of CYLC.
