3 seized over fake health-care products
    2017-March-30  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THREE suspects were busted by Nanshan police for allegedly selling fake health-care products. They are now under criminal detention, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

The Yuehai Police Station in Nanshan received a resident’s tip-off against an online shop that was allegedly selling health-care counterfeits in early March. The resident said that after taking the health-care product he bought from the shop, he suffered from an array of physical discomforts such as vomiting and weakness.

The man later found out that the product did not have any certificate to prove it was genuine.

After rounds of investigation, police obtained the basic information about the three suspects and their daily whereabouts. On the night of March 22, police raided a rental apartment in Longgang District and busted the three suspects.

A batch of health-care counterfeits packaged as “U.S.-imported Golden MACA” and Tibetan-made health-care products for enhancing kidney function were seized inside the apartment.

The counterfeits were detected to contain a poisonous substance by the food and drug supervision bureau in Nanshan District.

The three suspects admitted to their crime of selling fake health-care products on online shops.

Nanshan police disclosed that one of the suspects, identified as Li, had graduated from a medical school and was an intern doctor for a year back in his hometown in Henan Province. In Li’s eyes, selling fake health-care products was a quick way to earn large profits, so he and his wife colluded with a third person, surnamed Huang, to do the online business.

They rented a four-bedroom apartment in the Pinghu area of Longgang District for their residence as well as their business. They used four computers in the living room to sell the fake products online.

It was explained by the police that the three suspects had registered multiple shops on an online shopping platform. They packed the products during the daytime and posted the products to customers all around the country at night.

Prices for the products were between 10 and 150 yuan (US$1.45 to 21.77). Residents are reminded to purchase health-care products at legal shops and not to fall for the trap of low-priced products.
