Italian robot maker unveils new model at SZ fair

ITALIAN multinational Comau unveiled its latest industrial robot model at Shenzhen’s annual machinery fair yesterday, underlining the importance it is attaching to the South China market.

Taking a starring role at the Shenzhen International Machinery Manufacturing Industry Exhibition, which opened yesterday at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center, Comau said its Racer5 model is designed for the 3C industry, which has a pivotal role in Shenzhen’s economy.

In addition to the latest model, Comau, which has been widely known for its robots used in automaking, also brought other products, including the Rebel-S.

“We believe that China is the robot market of the future,” Tobias Daniel, head of sales and marketing of Comau’s robotics and automation products division, told reporters.

The South China market, according to Tang Xin, general manager of Comau’s China robotics and automation products division, is expected to take up at least 40 to 45 percent of the market share of Comau by 2022.

Seeing the rising demand for process automation in the 3C industry, Comau has formed a new team to develop robots used in 3C manufacturing. It has put its manufacturing base in China and exports finished products to users in Southeast Asia, South Korea and other areas of the world, Daniel said.

It’s the fourth time for Comau to have a presence at the four-day fair. Highlighting automation as one of its themes this year, the fair, which has an exhibition area of more than 100,000 square meters, is hosting more than 1,200 exhibitors from roughly 20 countries and regions and is expected to receive 100,000 visitors.
