SEVEN guests, including leaders from IT companies and public welfare foundations, and investors attended the forum themed “IT and Shake Off Poverty” during the China (Shenzhen) IT Summit yesterday afternoon.
The attendees discussed how the IT industry can help rural people shake off poverty.
“Because of the Internet, rural people have a fair opportunity to access information,” said Chen Hong, president and CEO of the private equity firm The Hina Group. But it doesn’t mean you can shake off poverty once you can access information, added Yao Jinbo, CEO of 58.com.
Platform and education are key to shaking off poverty, said Wang Yang, president of the investment firm Cybernaut. He used Guizhou as an example, saying that it is rich in resources, but people there have no idea how to use them to shake off poverty.
Fu Cairui, founder of the Internet education firm Hu Jiang, said Hu Jiang would offer free online classes for rural people.
