Will Ferrell movie set for ATX festival screening
    2017-04-03  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

WILL FERRELL is set to headline a special screening of his 2015 Lifetime movie “A Deadly Adoption” at the upcoming ATX Television Festival.

The film, which co-starred fellow SNL grad Kristen Wiig, was a top-secret project Ferrell spearheaded in 2015 just as the cabler’s TV movie slate turned 25. A longtime fan of Lifetime TV movies, Ferrell also exec-produced the film through his Gary Sanchez Productions.

In the film, Ferrell and Wiig starred as a successful couple who care for a pregnant teen in hopes of adopting her unborn baby. However, things quickly go awry.

Rachel Lee Goldenberg (“Escape From Polygamy,” “Love at the Christmas Table”) directed the two-hour film based on a script from Andrew Steele, author of “The Spoils of Babylon.”

Like the making of the movie, Lifetime kept the project tightly under wraps. When The Hollywood Reporter broke news of the project two years ago — Lifetime said the film had been scrapped, only to promote it with a large billboard in Hollywood a few months later. The film nabbed 6 million viewers during its premiere weekend in June 2015.

However, “A Deadly Adoption” vanished as secretly as it was made and is no longer available legally on any platform. The ATX screening will mark only the second time the film has been shown on the big screen without commercial interruption.

Following the screening, Ferrell will participate in a panel with Steele and exec producer Jessica Elbaum. The screening is scheduled for June 8.

The “Deadly Adoption” screening joins previously announced ATX reunions for “The Comeback,” “Designing Women,” “thirtysomething,” “Northern Exposure” and the writers of “Alias.” Other panels include “This Is Us,” “Girls,” “Fargo,” “The Mick,” “The Leftovers,” “The Americans,” “Fear the Walking Dead,” “Playing House,” and “Grace and Frankie,” among many others. The sixth annual ATX Television Festival runs June 8-11.(SD-Agencies)
