Train fares change
FARES of high-speed trains on the southeast coast rail line between Shenzhen and Ningbo in Zhejiang Province will be changed April 21.
Shenzhen travelers will have to spend more to take some trains to the Chaoshan area in Guangdong, Fujian, Zhejiang and Shanghai.
The present fare for a second-class seater is 89.5 yuan (US$13) from Shenzhen to Chaoshan Station. It will be 107 yuan for D3108 and 102 yuan for D2342. However, the fare for D2350 will be lowered to 85 yuan and D7406’s will be 73 yuan.
After the adjustment, the fare from Shenzhen to Xiamen will be 180 yuan, which is still lower than the bus fare at 248 yuan.
Official under probe
HUANG WEIQING, deputy chief of Longhua Subdistrict Office in Longhua District, is being investigated for suspected violations of Party discipline, Longhua District Party Disciplinary Inspection Commission said on its official website.
Huang was appointed in May last year and resigned as deputy to the district’s people’s congress March 24.
Drug seller arrested
A MAN who allegedly sold drugs online and delivered them through courier services was caught by Nanshan police in Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province, recently.
The man, surnamed Shi, 48, a native of Changzhou in Jiangsu Province, was caught in his apartment, where police also seized 1.8 kg of marijuana and some methamphetamine hydrochloride, a potentially deadly addictive stimulant commonly known as ice.
Driver fined
THE driver of a car was fined 6,000 yuan (US$869) and had 12 points added to his driving license Saturday for driving without a license plate, Yantian traffic police said on their official Weibo account.
The driver, who was not identified by the police, will also have his driving license suspended for six months. The driver, who was stopped during a routine patrol, failed to install his license plates after the temporary plates had expired, traffic police said.
Ecological protection
TWO products manufactured by Mindray, a Shenzhen-based medical equipment maker, have been granted the “Ecological Origin Product Protection” certificates from the country’s top quality watchdog, Shenzhen’s inspection and quarantine bureau said yesterday.
The two products, a blood cell analyzer and a patient monitor, are the first Shenzhen-made products to be granted the protection.
The certificates issued by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine indicates that the two products made by Mindray are in line with environmental protection, low-carbon emissions and resource conservation requirements over their entire life cycle. They are subject to tax reductions and exemptions.
E-bike thefts
TWO brothers, surnamed Wei, aged 19 and 25, were caught by Guangming police for having been involved in stealing e-bikes since March.
In one month, they were involved in five thefts in two areas in Guangming.
On March 30, officers found three suspects near Hongxing Square and detained one of the brothers. Acting on clues, officers detained the other Wei in a hotel in Gongming Subdistrict.
Massage clubs closed
GUANGMING police closed three foot massage clubs and detained six people for being involved in prostitution recently.
In the weeklong action between March 16 and 22, police found three clubs that were involved in prostitution services and closed the clubs.
Police held a meeting Sunday with managers of 140 entertainment clubs, requiring business operators to obey the law and ban gambling, drugs and prostitution at their premises.
Drug trafficking
A PARALLEL trader was caught at Huanggang Customs carrying 970 grams of caffeine into Shenzhen recently.
In a random check, customs officers found a plastic bag of powder wrapped in used newspapers in the traveler’s backpack. The traveler claimed it was hair-dye, but a test showed it was caffeine.
The traveler admitted that he had charged a commission to carry the powder, but hadn’t been aware that it was caffeine. Caffeine could cause damage to one’s health if it is used for a long time. China treats it as a controlled item and regards it as a drug in a broad sense. The case has been handed to the anti-smuggling department for investigation.
