饭制剧
    2017-04-04  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    Meaning:

“饭” is the Chinese transliteration of the English word “fan,” “制” means to “make,” and “剧” refers to a “TV series.” A term coined by Chinese netizens, it refers to the TV series produced by the fans of a certain idol to pay homage to that particular actor or actress, usually by reediting clips from existing TV or film footage. The term became a buzzword after a fan-produced TV series with actor Yang Yang in the lead went viral among fans. The show titled “Unpredictable Lover” stopped broadcasting after it was accused of illegally using footage from other shows.

    Example:

    A: 有一部很火的饭制剧停播了。

Yǒu yībù hěn huǒ de fànzhìjù tíng bō le。

A very popular fan-produced TV series stopped broadcasting.

    B: 你说的是杨洋粉丝制作的那部剧吧?两集以后就停了。

Nǐ shuō de shì yángyáng fěnsī zhìzuò de nàbù jù ba? Liǎng jí yǐhòu jìu tíng le。

Are you talking about the show produced by the fans of Yang Yang? It stopped broadcasting after only two episodes.
