Pedestrian killed
A WOMAN surnamed Li was killed by a car at a zebra crossing Monday in Longhua District. The driver didn’t yield the way to Li while he drove along Huarong Road in Dalang Subdistrict. Li died in a hospital and Longhua police said the driver will hold full responsibility for the accident.
Construction site fire
A FIRE at a construction site near Huaqiangbei in Futian District on Monday caused heavy smoke. The fire was caused by water-proof plastic boards that were piled up at the construction site and no one was injured.
Ticket dispenser
THE first automatic ticket dispenser was installed at the 24-hour DIY Service Room in Minzhi Subdistrict, Longhua District recently, selling tickets for high-speed and other regular trains.
Different types of dispensers have been installed in the service room for local residents applying for travel permits, ID cards, paying fines or accessing banks or government services.
SZ contest
AN entrepreneurship contest organized by Hong Kong University of Science and Technology will be held in Shenzhen. Winners of the contest can expect to receive a total combined prize money of nearly 700,000 yuan (US$101,430).
The deadline for applying to attend the contest is April 21.
Alumni of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology donated more than 500,000 yuan to award the winning teams of the contest.
Car collision
A WHITE car slammed into a BMW before scratching two other cars on Donghuan Boulevard in Gongming, Bao’an District at about 1 a.m. yesterday.
A male passenger in the BMW was injured and stuck inside the car after the accident. The white car and the BMW were severely damaged and the two drivers were also injured. None of those involved sustained life-threatening injuries.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
Woman killed
A WOMAN was run over by a pick-up truck while walking across the pedestrian crossing on a road in Longhua District on Monday afternoon, traffic police said. The woman, surnamed Li, later died in the hospital following emergency treatment.
Police said that the truck driver, surnamed Yao, should be held fully responsible for the accident because he didn’t slow down when Li, 34, walked into the pedestrian crossing.
