A NUMBER of Shenzhen water-purifier brands, including Hunsdon and Imrita, were exposed for having produced and sold substandard water-purifying machines by a CCTV program focused on a quality report Sunday.
The report disclosed that an inspection carried out by quality supervision departments in Jiangsu Province found that 29 out of 60 batches of water purifiers failed to meet qualification standards, a rate of 48.3 percent.
Nine batches were found to contain bacteria in excess of the national limit, with one of the batches containing more than 20 times the national limit.
The random inspection examined the water purifiers of 45 brands sold nationwide. Two Shenzhen brands, Hunsdon and Imrita, were specifically named on the program.
It was reported that the prices of the water purifiers do not have a direct relation to their quality, meaning that a high price on a water purifier does not guarantee good quality.
Shenzhen is a big market for water-purifier manufacturers, as its residents tend to pay more attention to water quality and health, said a salesperson at a home appliance store.
