The organizer of Shenzhen 100 KM, the city’s largest annual hiking event to be held April 22, is open for applications.
This year, the trip will be cut short to 60 kilometers instead of the previous 100 kilometers. The route is from Shenzhen Universiade Center to Kuichong Square. Walkers will pass by Longgang Boulevard, Dawang Binglang Park, Wutong Mountain, Shuangyong Park, Yantian Coastal Plank Road, Dongbei Bridgehead and Tuyang Village.
Out of safety concerns, the organizer has set a ceiling of 20,000 participants. Applicants need to apply in groups, which comprise 2-8 people aged between 18-65. The organizer doesn’t welcome non-participants to follow the hikers. Once they are successfully registered, hikers are not allowed to give their registration cards to surrogates. There will be no refunds for application fees.
For the first time, the organizer is requiring each applicant to pay a 100-yuan (US$14.7) fee for the event, which covers a souvenir medal, a T-shirt, a cloth bag and insurance. The organizer said that part of the money will be donated to the 100-km Hike Special Fund, which was set up to promote environmental protection, healthy lifestyles, outdoor safety and citizen fitness programs.
